Obituary

Maxine H. Petersen, 93, of Grand Island, formerly of Wilcox, NE, died Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Wedgewood Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island.  Burial will be in the Wilcox Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 am Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Stonecroft Ministries of Kansas City.
Mrs. Petersen was born on February 21, 1921 at Lingle, Wyoming to Oscar and Etta Samuelson. The family moved to Wilcox in the early 1930's where she graduated from Wilcox High School. She then attended Houghton College in New York before moving to Gibbon where she taught Home Economics at Gibbon High School. While living in Gibbon she met her future husband of 26 years, Robert Petersen. The couple made their home on the Petersen family farm outside of Grand Island. She worked for the Hall County Extension Office where she helped publish several of their annual cook books. Mr. Petersen preceded her in death.
Maxine also worked as an ambassador for the state of Nebraska with Secretary of State Frank Marsh. She then moved to Kansas City in 1975 where she worked for the Stonecroft Ministries helping establish the Christian Women's Clubs and Fellowship Bible Coffees throughout the United States. She retired from Stonecroft Ministries in 2002 and moved to Chapman to live with her daughter Kris. For the last 5 years Maxine has resided at Hastings Homestead in Hastings.
She was a past member of the Evangelical Free Church of Grand Island and the Elks Club. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to cook. Faith was very important to Maxine throughout her entire life. She was a true servant and always put others needs before her own.
She is survived by a son, Stacey L. Petersen of Grand Island; a daughter, Karen E. Petersen and her husband Shawn Crowley of Seattle, WA; a daughter, Kristin L. Schleichardt and her husband Thomas of Chapman;  five grandchildren, Zach (Amy) Millimet, Timothy Petersen, Shelley (Scott) Rystrom, Mary Schleichardt, Keith (Kapra) Schleichardt; great grandchildren, Molly and Shane Millimet, Tyler Rystrom, Kaysha Anson, and Keithen, Kardter, and soon to be born Kennedy Schleichardt; and a sister Marion Adam and her husband Fred of Wilcox.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Carl Stenmark, and Marjorie and Ron Melbye.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island.  Burial will be in the Wilcox Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 am Saturday at the funeral home.
