Michael Leon Hill, Sr., 63, of Omaha, died Friday, July 25, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Grand Island.
Burial will military honors will be held at a later date. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is serving the family.
Mr. Hill was born on September 20, 1950 at Omaha to James and Dorothy (Webster) Hill. Michael's mom later married Roy Lee Richey and the couple raised Michael along with his siblings. He grew up in Omaha and received his education at Omaha Tech High School.
He entered the United States Army on March 30, 1970, serving in Vietnam from Feb 1971 until December 1971. He was honorably discharged on December 1, 1971.
Following his discharge from the Army he worked at several packing houses in south Omaha, and later drove a truck as well. Michael's family and friends will remember him as a hardworking man who loved animals.
He is survived by his children; Demetrius L. Smith of Omaha, Imelda M. Hill of Omaha, Michael Leon Franklin, Sr. of Brooklyn Park, MN; 15 Grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Also surviving are his siblings, Barbara Helm of Omaha, Ronnie Richey and his wife Belinda of Omaha, Constance Miller of Omaha, Daisy Currington of Omaha, Martha Richey of Omaha, Thelma Waller and her husband Lawyer of Omaha, Bernadette Haynes and her husband Anthony of Omaha, Darlene Sherman of Omaha, Theresa Richey of Omaha, and Donna Richey of Omaha; a special cousin, Dawud Farrakhan and his wife Vivian of Omaha; several aunts, uncles; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Michael Leon Hill, Jr., a daughter, Kia Marie Hill, a brother, James "Pete" Hill, a sister Susie Hill, and brother, Roy "Redick" Richey.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is serving the family.
