Obituary

Patricia Ann Cumming, 89, of Grand Island died Friday, May 1, 2015 at Tiffany Square in Grand Island.

Patricia was born November 6, 1925 to Fred Thomas and Ethelyn Margaret (Lawrence) in St. Louis, MO. She grew up on a farm in Nance County, NE. She graduated valedictorian from St. Edward High School in 1942. During those years she aspired to be an actress, dancer, and author. After high school she attended Hastings Business College and worked as a clerk and stenographer.
On September 27, 1942, she was united in marriage to Orville Wendell Cumming in Smith Center, KS. Their adventure lasted 67 years. Their first years were spent living at a variety of posts during enlistment times of World War II and Korea, but then settled to live in Hastings and Grand Island for the remainder of their lives.

Patricia was an avid reader and enjoyed textiles, sewing and quilting. She received special awards from Hall County and Nebraska State Fair over the years. One of her last desires was to create a quilt to win a blue ribbon. Although her sight and dexterity where not as they once were; she was always engaged in the creative process and planning of her projects.

Her family loved her fried chicken and apple pie, but most of all will miss her sense of humor and wit. Her desire was to depart this life with grace and dignity, which encompassed all that she was to all who knew her.
