Phillip R. Hinrichs, 63, of Cairo died Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Grand Island.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 am Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Reverend Jack Sample will officiate. According to Phillip's wishes he was cremated. Cremation services were provided by Westlawn Memorial Park Crematory. Burial will be at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
Phillip was born on October 2, 1948 in Grand Island to Wilbur and Luella (Wolfe) Hinrichs. He grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Northwest High School in 1966.
He entered the United States Army on September 17, 1968 and served during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm. In September of 1970 he entered the Army Reserves and later served in Desert Storm. Following
He was united in marriage to Gayle Hall on August 12, 1975 in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island where he worked for the United States Postal Service. In 1981 they moved to Dannebrog where he served as Post Master until his retirement in 2009.
Phillip always looked forward to breakfast with his family and friends. He also loved to garden and enjoyed reading the newspaper and keeping up on current events.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Gayle of Cairo; a daughter, Belinda Hinrichs of Bellevue; and a son, William Hinrichs of Grand Island.
He is also survived by a brother, Frederick (Joan) Hinrichs of Arizona; two sisters and brothers-in-laws, Leann (Lonnie) Wilsey of Grand Island, and Karolina (John) Dunn of Grand Island; and six sisters-in-law and five brother-in-laws, Virg Edwards of Colorado, Maureen Gilliam of Omaha, Laura Thomas of Hartington, Jim and Robbie Hall of Iowa, Tim and Leanne Hall of Grand Island, Lynn and Nila Hall of Virginia, and Linda and Jerry Nuss of Grand Island; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Willa Edwards, a brother, Weldon "Donnie" Hinrichs, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elwin and Evelyn Hall.
