Phyllis L. Rivera, 76, of Grand Island, Nebraska passed away and entered the Kingdom of Heaven Thursday, October 24, 2024 at CHI Health St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska with her family by her side.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Friday, November 1, 2024 at Abundant Life Church in the Legacy Room.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, November 1, 2024 at Abundant Life Church in the Legacy Room in Grand Island. Pastor Frank Gordoa and Pastor Gene Arnold will officiate the service.

Interment will be held in the Grand Island City Cemetery in Grand Island.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.

Phyllis was born July 30, 1948 to Justin & Edna (Patton) Fourhorns in Rapid City, South Dakota. She attended school in Sidney, Nebraska and Pine Ridge, South Dakota and college classes at Grand Island CCC.

She met her loving husband, Frank Rivera in Sidney, Nebraska in April 1963. The couple was united in marriage on January 25, 1969 in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Phyllis's entire work life was in customer service and she also worked in the Nursing Industry.

Phyllis loved spending time with her husband, Frank, driving around and sight-seeing, watching movies and listening to music. She enjoyed the outdoors and enjoyed yardwork. She was a wonderful cook and loved family gatherings, especially the holidays. She was a valuable presence in her grandchildren's lives watching them all grow up. Phyllis was a devout Christian her entire life and attended the Abundant Life Church. She was loved by everyone who met her and knew her because of her unwavering faith in God and unaltered attitude in life. She taught her family to put God first and to never doubt His plans for each of them. More importantly to pray and to thank Him even when things were going well. She taught them to trust in Him even through times of sickness, loss and despair. Even through her own sickness, she had God. She had a comforting calmness about her when things were not well. She was, and always will be the best mother, grandmother, aunt and wife.

She is survived by her loving husband, Frank Rivera; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ramona & Saul Sanchez, Monica & Jerry Davis; grandchildren, Carlos Rivera-Sanchez, Francisco Rivera-Sanchez, Saul Sanchez Jr., Blanca Sanchez, Sabrina Sanchez, and Christopher Flores; two great grandchildren, Mila & Crew and many nieces and nephews; two brothers, James Fourhorns and Kenny Fourhorns; one sister, Louise Lucero.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, Justin & Edna Fourhorns, Sr.; two brothers, Justin Fourhorns Jr. and Sidney Fourhorns; three sisters, Marilyn Banks, Dolores Fourhorns and Norma Rodriguez.
