Ramona M
(Pfister) Traudt
Jun 29, 1928 — Mar 20, 2024
Ramona Margaret (Pfister) Traudt, age 95, passed away peacefully and entered the gates of Heaven on March 20, 2024, at Primrose Retirement Community of Grand Island, the place she proudly called home for the last two years of her life.
Ramona was born on June 29, 1928, to William and Pauline Pfister of Bixby, Nebraska, the eighth of their nine children. She attended country school in Filmore County and graduated from Sutton High School in 1945. After completing two years of teacher training, she taught school for one year.
In the spring of 1945, Ramona met Leonard Traudt of Stockham, Nebraska, and they married later that same year. During their time in the area, Ramona and Leonard farmed for 12 years, managed a grocery store for two years, served as founding members of the Stockham Bible Church, and were blessed with three children: Dan, Nancy, and Tim.
In 1961, the family purchased the Sno Queen Drive-In and moved to Henderson, Nebraska. They lived there for 15 years, during which time each of their children graduated from Henderson High School. After raising their family, Ramona and Leonard moved to Grand Island in 1975. Following several years of caretaking for her mother-in-law, Ramona worked as a Miller & Paine/Dillards Department Store sales associate. She retired in 1995.
Ramona accepted Jesus as her Savior at an early age and served him in various ministries throughout her life. She was actively involved in prayer ministry and many Bible studies. She loved to sing, especially her favorite hymns. One of her favorite daily meditations was the 9th Psalm, which she regularly shared with others: "I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your
wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High…"
Hospitality was Ramona's gift. She loved to cook, bake, and entertain. She warmly welcomed others into her life, and you never left a visit to her home without being fed, both literally and spiritually. She also loved all sports and was a passionate Husker (and, more recently, Creighton) fan.
Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pauline Pfister, three sisters and four brothers, her husband Leonard, and son Dan. She is lovingly remembered and survived by sister Elaine (Ken) Brock of Chico, California; daughter Nancy (Jim) Lichtenberg of Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska; son Tim (Terri) Traudt of Edina, Minnesota; daughter-in-law Susan Traudt of Grand Island; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and countless nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.
Services will be held at Third City Christian Church in Grand Island on Monday, April 1 (visitation) from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Tuesday, April 2 (funeral) at 11:00 AM. Memorials preferred to Stockham Community Church or Third City Christian Church.
