Rebecca Jane.Spahn, 95, of Grand Island, died Friday February 26 at Tiffany Square Care Center. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Online condolences may be directed to www.livson.com.
She was born March 20, 1920, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to James A. Walker and Alice E. Norton Walker. Jane graduated from Vinita High School, Vinita, OK, in 1937, received a B.S. degree from Oklahoma State University in 1942, and a law degree (LLB) from Oklahoma City University in 1955.
Jane served with the American Red Cross in the European Theatre from 1945-47 and later worked for Amoco in both Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
She married Gerald "Gerry" Spahn on Sept. 14, 1957 at Vinita, OK. Mr. Spahn worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and the couple resided in Oklahoma City, Topeka, and North Platte, before moving to Grand Island in 1979.
Jane Spahn was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, PEO, the Riverside Golf Club, and both the Nebraska and Oklahoma Bar Associations. She enjoyed a vigorous game of bridge with her friends, and was a gracious host in her Briarwood Blvd. home in Grand Island for many years. The family wants to thank friends and neighbors Toni Mayer, Alice Mahood, and Jim Omel, for friendship and kindness shown to Jane, and Erica Long for her dedicated service.
Survivors include a sister, Mabel A. Walker, Sun City, AZ, and her Walker and Spahn nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gerry in 1987, her parents and two brothers, George A. Walker and Arthur N. Walker.
