Obituary

Reinhardt "Reinie" F. Schuessler, 95, of Grand Island, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at the Veterans' Home in Grand Island. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday, March 8, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Interment with military honors at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Laymen's League or the Graebner/Schuessler Memorial Scholarship at Concordia Teachers College in care of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Mr. Schuessler was born May 27, 1917 to Alfred and Clara (Doudt) Schuessler in rural Hall County, Nebraska. He graduated from Trinity Lutheran School in 1931 and then attended Grand Island Senior High graduating in 1935. Following high school he worked on the family farm.
Reinhardt was united in marriage to Dorcas Graebner in 1941. From February 1943 until February 1946, he served his country in the Army, serving in the South Pacific. He then was employed at Sothman Lumber Company for over 31 years, the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant for four years and finally at Speltz-Schultz for nine years before he retired in 1982. He married Elizabeth Wit in 1992.
Reinie was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as chairman of the boards of education, trustees and elders, as well as an usher. He was a charter member of Lutheran Laymen's League at Trinity. He was an active volunteer at Stuhr Museum, the American Legion and most recently the Liederkranz.
Reinie is survived by a daughter, Ruth (Rev. Dr. David) Wurster of Orchard Park, NY; son, Richard (Phyllis) Schuessler of Lincoln, NE; four grandchildren, Katherine (Dan) Kilpatrick, Abigail (Kendall) Kiker, Erin Schuessler and Jesse Schuessler; five great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and brother, Harold (Betty) Schuessler of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives, Dorcas in 1983 and Elizabeth in 2010; sisters, Emma Campbell, Bertha Karr, Lena Biagi; brothers, Ernest Schuessler, Don Schuessler, and an infant brother.
