Richard R. 'Rick' Smith, 67 of Boelus went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Grand Island Park Place Care Center.

A Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 29 at the Cairo United Methodist Church with Reverend Paul Canady Officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences and sharing of memories may be directed to www.livson.com.

Rick was born April 6, 1950 at Burwell, NE to Eldon and Loy (Hoppes) Smith. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1968. He married Patricia Filkin in December of 1969 in Grand Island and to this union one child, Brandi, was born.

He worked for Redman Trailer and the Monfort Plant for several years before working at Merrick Machine in Alda.  Rick was very interested in environmental conservation products.

He was an avid reader, enjoyed watching golf, and spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.

He survived by his mother, Loy Smith of Boelus; daughter, Brandi Shipwash and her husband Chris of Bellevue, NE; a sister, Charmaine Smith of Tollsen, AZ; brother, Ladd Smith of Boelus; and a grandson, Caleb Shipwash; and special friend, Patricia Smith of Boelus.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Eldon; and a grandson, Cameron Shipwash.
