He was born on July 16, 1953 in Grand Island to Wallace and Kathryn (Harder) Johnson.  He grew up in Grand Island and attended Jefferson, Walnut and Grand Island Senior High, graduating in 1971. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education from UNL.  In 1980, he moved to California, followed by Las Vegas, New Orleans, Virginia and back to California .  In 2014, he returned to Grand Island due to his health.

Rick was employed with Arco and Tesoro for the majority of his career and also in real estate for brief time in Virginia.  He was a member of various organizations and a fan of the Packers, Celtics and New York Yankees.  He enjoyed traveling, fine foods, reading, camping and was a history buff and was able to see many Civil War sites while in Virginia

His is survived by his brother, Randy Johnson;  Aunt, Colleen Johnson and numerous cousins.
