Robert C. (Conrad) Larson of Cairo, NE died peacefully with family at his side on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the age of 95.
He was born on January 21, 1920 in Shickley, NE to Olaf and Augusta (Samuelson) Larson. His parents emigrated from Sweden in the late 1800's. Bob was the youngest of six children: Francis, Ferne, Mildred, Rudolph, and Lillian. He was baptized and confirmed in the Stockholm Lutheran Church at Shickley. He served in World War II for four years with the 59th Air Service Group and was stationed in the South Pacific. Upon his return, Bob attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln on the GI Bill, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1949.
Upon graduation, Bob worked for the State Bank of Cairo (now Pathway Bank) throughout his career serving as President and Chairman for many years. He joined the Cairo United Methodist Church in 1950 and was a very active member, served as Chairman of the Church Board, Sunday School teacher, leader of the Methodist Youth Fellowship, and sang in the church choir for 66 years. He was a member and past master of the Cairo Masonic Lodge #324, member of the Tehama Temple Shrine, the Scottish Rite and the Royal Order of the Jesters. He served on the Village Board of Cairo, the Cairo Fire Department, Mount Pleasant Cemetery Board, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member and past commander of Cairo American Legion Post #333. He served on the Board of Trustees of the University of Nebraska Foundation, as Member of the University Alumni Association and the Nebraska Diplomats. Bob served on the Stuhr Museum Board and as Chairman of the Stuhr Foundation. He also served as Chairman of the St. Francis Hospital Board and was on the Board of the Foundation of the hospital. Additionally, he served as a director of the Nebraska Independent Bankers Association.
Bob was united in marriage to Ruth L. Sorensen on June 25, 1950. They were blessed with two daughters, Seanne Larson Emerton and Mary Larson Diaz.
Bob was a kind, gentle, loving man with a beautiful tenor voice and a wonderful sense of humor. In addition to the church choir, he sang in a number of barbershop quartets and the Grand Island City Singers. His faith was very important to him. He was passionate about Nebraska football, played golf until he was 90 years old, and he adored his wife.
Survivors include his wife Ruth, daughters Seanne and Mary, sons-in-law Tom Emerton and Francisco (Paco) Diaz, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings.

Services will be held at the Cairo United Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 29 at 10:30 am with Rev. Cathryn Love presiding. Visitation will be held Monday, December 28 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Church. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Cairo, NE. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is serving the family.
