Obituary

Rev. Robert J. Rupprecht, Omaha, formerly of Grand Island, was granted eternal life on December 25, 2013 at the age of 70. Pastor Rupprecht's visitation with the family present will be held at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home, Grand Island, NE on January 2, 2014 from 4:00 pm. – 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grand Island, NE on Friday January 3, 2014 at 11:00 am. Pre-service hymn sing will start at 10:30 am. His mortal remains will be laid to rest at the West Lawn Cemetery in Grand Island until the resurrection of all flesh. Memorials may be given: In memory of Rev. Robert J. Rupprecht to

Robert was given the gift of earthly life on March 7, 1943 at Saginaw, Michigan. He was the son of the late Arthur and Dora (nee Loesel) Rupprecht. Robert was baptized into the Christian faith on March 21, 1943 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville, MI, by Rev. William Schoenow and confirmed April 14, 1957 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville by Rev. William Schoenow. Bob attended St. Michael's Elementary School, graduated (1961) from Michigan Lutheran Seminary High School, Saginaw, MI, and received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, IL in 1966 and 1967 respectively.

Robert was united in marriage on August 5, 1967 to Annette Elizabeth Egger at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Portland, OR by Rev. Paul L. Frank. God blessed their marriage with the birth of one daughter and three sons, all born in Hong Kong, BCC.

Bob taught at the Hong Kong International School from 1967 to 1973. During that time he developed a multimedia card catalog at the International School which incorporated thousands of films of Hong Kong businesses and local and international government organizations. In 1973, Mr. Rupprecht accepted a teaching position at Trinity Lutheran School, Grand Island, NE, where he was affectionately known as "Mr. R." He taught until 1994, retiring from teaching due to health. Mr. Rupprecht became a District Representative for Aid Association for Lutherans (Thrivent) until 2001, when he returned to the study of the formal ministry at Concordia Seminary, St Louis, MO. In 2003 Bob was inducted as vicar at St. John Lutheran Church of Hollywood, New Germany, MN, and was ordained at St John in 2004. Bob served as pastor at St John until 2012, when he retired from the ministry and moved to Omaha, NE, to attend his chemo treatments for pancreatic and liver cancer at Creighton University Cancer Clinic.

Bob loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors: gardening, flowers, hunting, and rock collecting. Bob enjoyed traveling: Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and many parts of the US. He enjoyed playing Mahjong, Ping-Pong, softball, and badminton. He had a great love for music: classical, instrumental, organ, and choral. He participated in the choirs at Church of all Nations, Hong Kong, Trinity Lutheran, GI, and St John, Hollywood. He was also a member of the Grand Island City Singers for a number of years and participated in our nation's 1976 Bi Centennial celebration, representing the state of Nebraska in Washington DC. Besides teaching at Trinity for 21 years, Bob participated in coaching and officiating: flag football, volleyball, girls' basketball, softball, and track. Bob oversaw the operations of Trinity's school library and assisted in the development of the school's computer program. He produced and was the voice of the Trinity Radio broadcast from 1981 to 1996. Bob officiated Grand Island City League softball for 15 years, participating in numerous regional and state tournaments.

Robert is survived by his loving family: wife, Annette; daughter, Christine Winberg of Omaha; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Kate Rupprecht of Cape Town, South Africa, John and Munjong Rupprecht of Iksan, South Korea, Mark Rupprecht of Omaha; grandchildren, Jeremiah, Zachary, and Gabriel Rupprecht of Cape Town, Aaron, Michael, and Jesse Winberg of Hazard, NE; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Ruth Rupprecht of Richville, MI, Edward and Wilma Rupprecht of Sugar Grove, IL; brothers and sister-in-law, Jan and Connie Egger of Seattle, WA, Darwin James Gravelle of Colorado Springs, CO; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Pastor Rupprecht was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Dora (nee Loesel) Rupprecht; brothers, William, infant baby Rupprecht, and John F. Rupprecht; sister-in-law, Lois Rupprecht; brother-in-law, Stanley Egger, and father and mother-in-law, Irvin Egger, and Elida and Donald Vance.

It has pleased Almighty God in His wise providence to call out of this life the soul of our brother in Christ, Rev. Robert Jack Rupprecht. To God we give Praise!
