Obituary

Rolland L. Riese, 87, of Grand Island passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018 at CHI Health St. Francis Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be 10:00AM, Thursday at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Island with Pastor Thomas Schneider officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Cedarview Cemetery near Doniphan.

Rolland was born the middle child of John and Agnes (Kolbert) Riese on August 14, 1931. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on May 13, 1945. He attended the Doniphan school system and graduated from Doniphan High School in 1948.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force September 1950 and served for 20 years retiring in October 1970.

Rolland and Carole Lenz were married on July 26, 1953. There were three children from their marriage, Yvonne, Jeffery, and Roberta. He later married Ava Warick at Michigan in 1974. She preceded him in death on September 14, 1981. His step-daughter, Beverly Warick preceded him in death in 1983. On February 21, 1984 Rolland and Elda Kankelfitz were married at Grand Island, NE. After Rolland retired from the Air Force he worked for a hospital in Michigan before returning to Nebraska where he worked for Miller and Paine and St. Francis Medical Center.

He and Elda traveled to various locations for toy auctions and he also enjoyed coffee with the boys at Doniphan Pump and Pantry.

He is survived by his children, Yvonne Shearer, Jeffrey (Brenda) Riese, Roberta Riese, Carolyn (Dale) Scheerer, Keith (Kim) Kankelfitz, Brenda (Dan) Halstead; 13 grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Burdette and Gerald; his parents; and sister-in-law, Betty Riese.
