Obituary

Rosa Alma Marie Hoback, 93 of Grand Island, was called to her eternal home on Friday, March 16, 2018.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Luke Biggs officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:00 PM.

Rosa was born June 7, 1924 at Burwell, NE to Herman John and Anna Marie (Bormann) Meyer. She was united in marriage to Newell Kenneth Hoback on September 30, 1943 at Palmer, NE. The couple resided in the Palmer and Grand Island area.

Rosa was a member of Grace and recently Peace Lutheran Church. She was a member of LWML.

Rosa will be remembered for the three F's: FAITH, FAMILY, and FUN. Her faith could be described by Psalms 18:1-2, "I love you oh Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold."

Her family was the joy of her life. She cherished the opportunity to visit children and grandchildren. To know our grandmother was to know truly what love is. She loved her family completely and unconditionally. Her greatest joy was to spend time with us, especially new babies. She was the "baby whisperer" whom all babies felt at ease with and would fall asleep instantly as she held them. She never lost the ability to be a kid. She always had a sense of joy and wonder that was infectious—she shared her joy with everyone. She was everyone's Grandma.

Her favorite activities included doll collecting, quilting, baking cinnamon rolls, apple pies and bread, word search, ceramics and coloring. She enjoyed being a historian and genealogy.  Bingo, cards, and Mexican train dominos were her favorite games. Her motto was 'Heart and Soul'!

She will be remembered for her numerous hats, her infectious smile and the sparkle in her eye. She could walk in to a room full of strangers and leave with a room full of friends.

Survivors include her children, Newlene Laib; Monument, CO; Eulalia and Robert Dory; Colorado Springs, CO; Caralee and James Gruntorad; Eldridge, IA; Newell and Barbara Hoback; Mayer, MN; Angelia and Rev. Dr. Kyle Heck; Marysville, WA; and Cassondra and Ross Lyon; Giltner, NE.
