Roy (Cowboy) Lee Hunt, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Grand Island City Cemetery with military honors. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. Online condolences and sharing of memories may be directed to www.livson.com. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
Roy was born February 4, 1943 in Rawlings, WY to Leon and Clara Hunt of Merna, NE. where he grew up. He was one of eight children. Brothers, Tuff, Roger, Gerald, and sisters, Georgia, Janice, Iris and Kathy.
In his younger years he rode bulls and broncos. He later joined the Army National Guard of Nebraska in 1961 and served seven years of service as a Staff Sargeant. He was stationed in Broken Bow for the Battery C, 2nd Battalion 168th Artillery Regiment. He was a decorated sharp shooter. He ended his service with an Honorable discharge in 1967. He was united in marriage to Ruth on June 28th, 1996.
After time in the service, he drove truck for 40 years. He received many safety awards including his million miles driving for Grand Island Express.
Roy was a lover of rodeo, Husker football, fishing, country music – he even got the chance to see Cody Jinks in concert and he loved telling stories about his travel adventures.
He is survived by his son, Justin (Carrie) Garrison, of Grand Island; two grandchildren; brothers, Roger, Gerald; sisters, Georgia, Janice, Iris & Kathy; so many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Roy is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents, Leon and Clara; brother, Tuff.
