Obituary

Ruth Eileen Johansen, 87, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS with her family at her side.

Mrs. Johansen was born on February 27, 1928 at St. Paul, Nebraska to Peter S. and Edna (LeMasters) Anderson. She grew up and received her education in St. Paul. Following high school she worked for Northwestern Bell.

Ruth was united in marriage to the love of her life, Harvey Johansen, on November 19, 1947, in St. Paul. The couple made their home in Grand Island where they raised their four children and spent 63 loving years together. Mr. Johansen preceded her in death on February 12, 2011.

Ruth was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Platt Duetsche Ladies Society. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and knitting. She also loved to dance, especially polka and waltzes with Harvey. The couple also enjoyed fishing, camping, boating and taking bus trips to the casinos. Ruth's greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she loved when they came home to visit.

Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Steve Stoltenberg of Omaha; a daughter-in-law, Betty Johansen of Louisville, KY; a son, Ron Johansen of Grand Island; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Melody Johansen of Denver; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; a son, James Johansen; a daughter-in-law, Pam Johansen; three sisters, Lois Evison, Doris McCord and Evelyn Morse; and twin brothers, Dale and Dean Anderson.

Memorial services will be at 2 pm March 14th at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park at a later date. According to her wishes Ruth was cremated.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Central Nebraska Humane Society.
