Sharon Jane Gonzales (Tierney) died peacefully on August 7, 2026 at Good
Samaritan Society Grand Island Village in Grand Island, NE. A private family
memorial service will be held at a later date.
Sharon was born on November 4, 1948 to Edward and Gladys (Ragland) Tierney in
Albion, NE. She spent her early years in Albion, a farm outside of Central City, NE
and Grand Island.
Sharon married Andrew Gonzales, Jr. in 1968. They lived in Grand Island, Lincoln,
NE and an acreage outside of Douglas, NE. Sharon later moved to Aurora, NE and
then to Grand Island where she live until her death.
Life on the acreage was some of Sharon’s favorite years; baking, growing and
canning garden food, raising chickens, ducks and a few pigs. Sharon was an avid
baker, even making banana bread two weeks before her death. She was a
devoted homemaker, an animal lover, enjoyed knitting, needle work and had a
talent for sketching animals and people.
Sharon loved the Lord, Jesus Christ, and her faith was strong and passionate. She
read the Bible and prayed every day. She will be remembered for her witty sense
of humor, her kindness, compassion and her love for her family.
Sharon is survived by her children, Rita (Terry) Hemmer and Andrew Gonzales III;
grandsons, Eryn and Christopher Hemmer; sister, Bonnie Ainsworth, all of Grand
Island; Brothers, Larry (Cathy) Tierney of Yankton SD, Terry (Cindy) Tierney of
Waverly, NE, Derrick Tierney of Lincoln, NE, Leslie Tierney and Edwin Tierney of
Omaha, NE, Mark (Sherri) Tierney of Red Oak, IA; and many nephews and nieces.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Joseph; ex-husband,
Andrew Gonzales Jr.; and siblings Sandra Warren, Timothy Tierney and Kenneth
Tierney.
