Stanley R. Aguilar, Sr., 92, of Grand Island died Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the VA Medical Center.
Mass of Resurrection will be at 10:30 am Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral. Fr. Richard Piontkowski will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Sunday with a 7 pm Vigil Service at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Aguilar was born on May 7, 1919 in Grand Island to Jacinto and Isabel (Ramirez) Aguilar. He grew up and received his education in Grand Island.
He was united in marriage to Carlotta Salinas on November 12, 1938 in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island where he worked for Union Pacific Railroad.
Stanley entered the United States Army in 1944, serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged in January of 1946. Following his discharged he returned to work for the Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement in 1979.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral. Stanley loved to bowl, especially with his family. He also enjoyed working around the house and in his yard.
Survivors of the immediate family include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Stan and Rose Aguilar, Charlie Aguilar, and Tom and Leona Aguilar, all of Grand Island; two daughters, Helen Morrow and Alice Aguilar, both of Grand Island; three brothers, T.J. Aguilar, Seraphine (Bear) Aguilar and Manuel Aguilar; two sisters, Eva Vasquez and Mary Buckner; two half sisters, Esther Perlas and Ginger Arvizo.
Additional survivors include 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter Virgie Aguilar, three sisters and three grandchildren.
