Violet M. Printz, 95, formerly of Grand Island, passed away on Monday September 15, 2014 in Lincoln.
Violet was born on September 27, 1918 in Axtell, NE on the family farm.Her parents were Fred and Maud (Landstrom) Harwager.After graduating from Minden High School in 1935, she worked as a telephone operator in Minden and Grand Island before enlisting in the WAVES in 1943.She was stationed at the Naval Base in New Orleans earning the rating Radioman 2/c, and was honorably discharged in November 1945.Some of her most fond memories were of her time in the service and she was proud to be included in the Women in Military Service Memorial in Washington, D.C.
After leaving the service she was employed at the telephone company in Denver, where she met her future husband John P. Printz. They were married in Axtell, NE in 1947 and moved to Grand Island, NE.She attended the Grand Island Business College and subsequently worked at the VA and Grand Island Trust. She left GI Trust to assist her husband in the operation of his business, P & G Poultry until their retirement. She and her husband, John, enjoyed travel and dining until his death in 1987. Never idle, Violet was active in card clubs, church circle, and spending time with friends. She loved Scrabble and continued to play at least weekly until her final weeks of life.
Following the death of her son in 2011, she moved to an assisted living facility in Lincoln. The last year of her life was spent in a Green House at Tabitha in Lincoln where she received excellent care from loving staff.She is preceded in death by her parents; three siblings; husband, John Paul Printz; and son, John Steven Printz. She is survived by daughter Patti Jensen and her spouse David Jensen, Joshua Tree, CA; daughter DeAnne Printz and her spouse Jon Hempel, Lincoln; and grand-daughter, Claire Hempel, Lincoln.Special thanks to her sister-in-law Helen Harwager for her many phone calls and visits. A memorial service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Caroline Price-Gibson will officiate. A private family burial will precede the service.
