Obituary

Charles W. Landgraf Jr., M.D., 86, of Grand Island died Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at home.
Memorial services will be at 11 am November 2, 2011 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Grand Island. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is serving the family.
Memorials are suggested to University Nebraska Medical School.
Dr. Landgraf was born on January 3, 1925 in Dubuque, Iowa to Charles William and Louise May Belle (Roedell) Landgraf. He grew up and received his education in Dubuque, graduating from high school in 1942.
He entered the United States Navy in 1942. He attended the University of Dubuque for his undergraduate studies. He then graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical School in 1949.
He was united in marriage to Dona Mae Johnson in June of 1949. He continued his naval service on the USS Haven during the Korean War. Following his active duty service the couple moved to Hastings in 1955 where he was on staff at Hastings Regional Center (formerly Ingelside) where he later became medical director and served as superintendent on 2 different occasions.  He also had a private psychiatry and neurology practice for over 27 years. He then went to work for Omaha Methodist Hospital before moving to Mesa, AZ.  He later worked for the VA Hospital in Hot Springs, South Dakota and Grand Island.
He was the Past President of the Nebraska Medical Association, Past President and charter member of Lochland Country Club, former Hastings City Councilman and Past President of the Hastings Rotary Club.
An avid golfer, Dr. Landgraf applied Rule 13 of the USGA rules of golf to all facets of his life…"play the ball as it lies."
Survivors of the immediate family include three daughters, Charlotte Landgraf(Mark Vidor), Molly Hansen(Scott) and Jennifer Landgraf and a son  Charles W. Landgraf III (Davida).
Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Libby Landgraf Humbles (Blake), Logan Landgraf, Aaron Landgraf, Andrew Hansen, Chloe Hansen, Lauren Hansen, Zacary Sherman and Christopher Sherman.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dona Mae Landgraf.
