Obituary

Wayne Schumacher, 84, of Grand Island died April 13, 2017, at the Grand Island Veterans Home. Graveside service will be 11:00 AM Monday April 17, 2017 at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Russ Anderson will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the family for donation to the VA Arts and Crafts Center, where Wayne spent many happy hours during his four year stay.

Wayne Edward Schumacher was born on April 27, 1932, in Hemingford, NE to William and Martha (Boyles) Schumacher. He grew up in the Alliance and Scottsbluff, NE area. On February 17, 1957, he was united in marriage to Evangeline Brown at Grand Island. The couple first lived in Alliance, NE, before returning to Grand Island; where they lived the rest of their lives. Wayne started his 30 year plumbing career at Jensen and Moore Plumbing and also worked at Ellington Plumbing.

He entered the United States Army in 1953, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1955. Wayne was a member of the Eagles. He enjoyed the outdoors, horse races (and playing Keno at Fonner Park), WWE wrestling, shooting pool, and reminiscing with his kids and grandkids.

Wayne is survived by children: Debra Martin of Las Vegas, NV, Rod (Heidi) Schumacher of Omaha, NE , and  Ronda (Tom) Stafford of Waverly, NE; grandchildren: Wynter Garner and family, Wendy Pendegrass and family, John Kohr and family, Kristina Kohr Parker and family, Lindsey Schumacher, Lisa Schumacher, Ryan Schumacher, and Taylor Schumacher,  Amber Stafford and  Dustin Stafford,; 11 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brothers: Dale (Jearlyn) Schumacher of Waverly, NE, Don (Rose) Schumacher of Scottsbluff, NE, Ronald (Kathy) Schumacher of Denver, CO, Max (Susie) Schumacher of Eugene, OR, Sam (Pat) Schumacher of Cheyenne, WY; sister-in-law: Jackie (Ivan) Harwood of Kearney, NE; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Vange; two sons: Rusty Garner and Richard Schumacher; three sisters, five brothers, two brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
