Wendell was born on June 6, 1953, in Faribault, Minnesota, to John and Ruth Ring. He graduated from Kenyon High School in 1971, where he was a standout athlete, and continued his athletic career at Augsburg College, where he played football and basketball, earning his teaching degree in 1975. Following graduation, Wendell began his career as a teacher and coach. He later transitioned into a successful career in sales, eventually becoming a respected sales manager.

Wendell was united in marriage to Barbara Evenson on June 19, 1982, in Fargo, North Dakota. They shared nearly 43 wonderful years, raising and chasing after their three kids and later on their beloved grandchildren. He made sure that both he and Barb were there for as much as they could to celebrate everything. As they entered retirement, they focused on travel, including trips for family and other trips for fun, especially to see friends and to see his favorite team, the Minnesota Twins, even when they were pathetic.

Wendell will be remembered for his strong work ethic (still working part-time), his love of sports, and the countless lives he impacted with his warmth, leadership, and dedication. He always had a quick joke or comeback and always kept you laughing. He pushed people to be their best selves and to stay ruthless. Step on the hand!

Wendell is survived by his wife Barb, his children Megan (Mark) Frickel, Maren (Nate) Lakers, John (Ashley) Ring, and his six precious grandchildren, Caroline Frickel, Cameron Ring, Margo Lakers, Bridger Frickel, Drew Lakers, and Noah Ring. He is also survived by his sisters, Roxanne Olson and Rita Harty.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Ring, his sister, Bonnie Enke and brother, Dick Ring and his father-in-law, Russ Evenson.
